New Joint Publication
GL101cover_thumb.jpgNAPA and the European Asphalt Pavement Association (EAPA) have published The Asphalt Paving Industry: A Global Perspective. This joint publication is intended to give the reader an overview of the world’s asphalt pavement industry. It provides a description of the industry, its scope, and its economic impact. The document includes chemical and physical data about asphalt pavement material, describes asphalt mixing plants, and explains how transport and placement of asphalt mixes is accomplished. In addition, it discusses bitumen fume exposure and measures that have been taken to reduce exposure including engineering controls and warm-mix asphalt. Asphalt for Sustainability
Asphalt is the environmentally sustainable pavement. Both the pavements themselves and the processes used to produce them are the ultimate in green.

  • Asphalt pavement is America’s most recycled product. Every year, 90 million tons of asphalt pavements are reclaimed, and more than 80 percent of that total is reused or recycled.
  • Between 1960 and 1999, while production of asphalt pavement material increased by 250 percent, total emissions from our operations decreased by 97 percent.
  • Porous asphalt pavements offer a tool for storm-water management with both environmental and economic benefits. Learn more.
  • Warm-mix asphalt reduces fuel consumption, cuts greenhouse gas emissions, and enhances the quality of pavements. Learn more.
