JUST FOR STUDENTS
Scholarship and Internship
To respond to the challenges for education in the hot-mix asphalt industry, NAPA endowed the NAPA Research and Education Foundation (NAPAREF). One part of NAPAREF is to promote scholarship and internship programs within the hot-mix asphalt industry. [Click Here]
Asphalt Scholarships Spur Learning
Since 1994, the NAPA Research and Education Foundation (NAPAREF) scholarship program, and related scholarship programs from members and state asphalt associations, have awarded 1187 scholarships. The money awarded through the 2005-2006 school year exceeds $3 million.
A vital part of the NAPAREF strategy involves collecting contributions from NAPA members, investing those donations, then awarding scholarships from the investment proceeds. The results have been a steadily improving quality of education for civil engineering students and more skilled employees for the hot-mix asphalt industry.
Links to Universities
Many universities and colleges offer asphalt courses as a part of their engineering curriculum. In addition, many also perform research related to asphalt technology. Attached is a listing of universities recognized for their opportunities in asphalt research and education. [Click Here]
NCAT Professor Training Makes Impact for Asphalt
Each June, the National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT) at Auburn University hosts a 10-day course for professors, instructors, and others involved in teaching asphalt technology. The goal of the Professor Training Program is to give educators the tools and information they need to teach about hot-mix asphalt and to ultimately recruit some students into the field. [more]
